Winch Service
Winch Removal, Inspection, Cleaning, Assembling & Testing
Removal
Each winch is assigned a WinchWorkshop Service online report sheet, which remains linked to the winch throughout its lifespan. This report serves as a record of all performed work, the overall condition of parts, and details of components used during servicing.
The service process begins with the removal of all winches from the boat. The winch bases remain in place, where they are cleaned and inspected.
All disassembled components are then carefully arranged in labeled transportation boxes and transferred to the workshop for further servicing.
Inspection & Cleaning
Once in the workshop, each winch is completely disassembled. Metal parts are carefully separated from plastic components to optimize the cleaning process.
Following disassembly, all components undergo a thorough wash with clean water and are dried completely.
Each part is meticulously inspected, with precise measurements taken to detect any signs of wear or damage. Photographs are captured and directly incorporated into the service report to monitor the condition of components and identify any parts requiring replacement.
Assembling & Testing
After cleaning and inspection, all pawl springs and pawl plugs are replaced as part of the standard service procedure.
Each winch is then carefully rebuilt in the workshop, with components lubricated and assembled upside down into the housing. This method ensures proper alignment, protects critical parts, and streamlines the final onboard installation, minimizing disruption to the yacht and crew.
All fasteners are torqued to the specified level, and a strike mark is applied to indicate the use of thread lock.
Once reassembled, each winch undergoes rigorous testing in all gears to verify proper functionality and performance. A WinchWorkshop Service label is affixed to the housing, displaying the service date, technician details, and a link to the service report.
After completing the full service, all reports are uploaded to the yacht’s Dashboard—a secure, password-protected online platform that serves as a centralized hub for yacht equipment information and service records.
